Day 1 - Costa Smeralda and La Maddalena national park
Day 1 - Costa Smeralda and La Maddalena national park Arrive to Sardinia and visit Costa Smerlada (Emerald coast) area with a stop in Porto Cervo dotted by the most fashionable boutiques. Porto Cervo is famous for the luxury hotels and villas designed by worldwide renowned architects. In the port anchor hundreds of beautiful and expensive yachts in the summer. Costa Smeralda means also beautiful tiny beaches with transparent water and pristine nature where the Mediterranean vegetation dominates with its ever green bushes and unforgettable perfumes. Visit to one beach for bathing or walking. Stop at Baja Sardinia, a little village on the northern coast. Lunch on your own in Baia Sardinia. After lunch proceed to visit an archaeological site of the nuragic civilization that dates back to Bronze age: one of the so-called giants’ tomb. Take a ferry from Palau to La Maddalena. Dinner and overnight stay in the hotel in La Maddalena.
Day 2 - Caprera island and Santa Teresa
After breakfast drive to Caprera island by bus for a walking tour in the middle of the perfumed Mediterranean maquis. Visit Garibaldi’s Museum, the place where the Italian national hero spent his last 26 years. Lunch on your own in the town after a panoramic drive around the La Maddalena island. In the afternoon take a ferry and then drive to Santa Teresa Gallura, a small town and an important port to Corsica. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
Day 3 - Castelsardo and Porto Torres
In the morning departure to Castelsardo. Before arriving at the town we’ll have a photo stop at the natural monument called the elephant rock. Visit the town of Castelsardo and the Museum of weaving located inside the castle. Lunch in Castelsardo on your own and in the afternoon proceed to Porto Torres to visit the basilica of San Gavino from the 11th century, the biggest Romanesque church in Sardinia. Then continue to Alghero. Dinner and over night in the hotel in Alghero.
Day 4 - Alghero and the Neptune’s caves
After breakfast visit the town of Alghero which is partly surrounded by walls and bastions to protect churches and civilian buildings with Aragon-Gothic details. Famous for its white long beach and coral workshops and cafés, Alghero is the ideal town for everybody. Visit one of the local coral shops and workshop. Lunch on your own. In the afternoon depart for the excursion by boat across the Coral Riviera to Capocaccia and the Neptune’s cave, an extraordinary karst grotto with stalactites, stalagmites and a salt water lake in the middle. On the way back take some spare time to stroll around the town. Dinner and overnight in hotel in Alghero.
Day 5 – Trinità di Saccargia church, Santu Antine Nuragic village, Bosa
In the morning stop for a visit to Santissima Trinità di Saccargia church, a beautiful example of Romanesque-Pisan style. Then proceed to St. Antine, a nuragic village which dates back to the Bronze age. Lunch in a local restaurant and the tour will proceed to Bosa built along the Temo river. It was one of the 7 Sardinian royal towns. It’s famous for its old, tall and coloured houses, its fishing boats, the doilies (still handmade in the old part of the town) and the Malvasia D.O.C. wine. Bosa is registered in the list of “I più bei borghi d’Italia” (the most beautiful villages of Italy). Dinner and overnight in hotel in Bosa.
Day 6 - Barbagia region
After breakfast drive to the Barbagia area. Visit the Costume museum in Nuoro to discover Sardinian traditions and artisans' skills. Then continue to visit Orgosolo. This village is famous for the murals painted on the walls of the houses, the economy based on sheep and pigs breeding and the excellent meat. Lunch with the shepherds to taste the local food cooked on the spot. On the way back stop in Olbia for some free time and for a short visit to San Simplicio basilica, a Romanesque church from the 11th century. In the evening board the ferry or the plane and depart from Sardinia.
