Bonifacio

Bonifacio

A full day trip to Bonifacio in Corsica. During the transfer to Santa Teresa Gallura port there is a chance to admire the northern part of Sardinia.

Once we reach the port, the ferry crosses the Bonifacio Strait, which is the stretch of sea that separates the Southern part of Corsica from the Northern part of Sardinia. The crossing lasts approximately 1 hour. This daily excursion shows various aspects of this beautiful area: characteristic landscapes made with high white limestone cliffs, the little town of Bonifacio situated on the hill dominating the whole port and the Bonifacio Strait, but also breathtaking nature, typical architecture and handmade souvenirs.
After sailing on the blue sea water and admiring the town of Bonifacio hanging upon the cliffs above the sea, the ferry stops in the port.

Bonifacio Marina has straight colourful houses facing the port, plenty of restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, and boutiques and is the ideal place for just strolling around and admire the luxury yachts anchoring in the port.

The old part of the town, still surrounded by walls is connected to the port by stairs (there is also a service with a train on wheels) – which are very large and not so steep so that everyone can walk up and down easily. The streets in the historical centre are picturesque, narrow and paved with stones. From the top there is a beautiful view over the northern coast of Sardinia and La Maddalena archipelago. Bonifacio has an interesting history – for a while Napoleon Bonaparte lived in the town, but at those times he was only an ambitious soldier who was trying to occupy La Maddalena island. There are some interesting places in the town like a square where is the past used to take place the fish market, grain stores and the cathedral that dates back to the 12th century. You may decide to visit also the famous King of Aragon‘s steps: 167 steps curved out of the bare rock to connect the town with the sea level or the old fortress.

There will be also some time for shopping typical souvenirs – chestnut ice cream, chestnut beer, earrings with small shells, objects made with cork and much more.
