La Maddalena national park

A daily cruise in la Maddalena National park

A full day excursion by boat in La Maddalena Archipelago is a chance to visit one of the most beautiful parts of the Mediterranean sea.

The whole area is protected since a National park was established in 1994. The archipelago is located between Northern Sardinia and Southern Corsica. It is composed of 7 major islands : La Maddalena, Caprera, Santo Stefano – that hosted a USA navy basis for 30 years - Spargi, Budelli, Razzoli, Santa Maria and many other smaller rocks. It stretches for about 180 km of coast line. La Maddalena is also the only town with about 11.000 people and is situated on the homonymous island, the biggest one. The smaller islands are now uninhabited except for Budelli and Caprera and most of them are usually visited only during the summer season for the wonderful white sandy beaches and transparent water. The archipelago is also well-known for the particular flora and fauna. Every island is different and on each one there are many beautiful small beaches and hidden bays. The light blue colour of the sea is mixed with a light beige colour of the granite rocks that are typical for the whole area. On Budelli island is the famous pink beach that was close to the tourists in 1992 in order to preserve the pinkish layers that deposit of the white sand. During our cruise we might see it from a distance. This archipelago played an important role in the history of the Mediterranean region for its central position. In 1805 Admiral Nelson offered a couple of silver candelabra and a silver cross to St. Maria Maddalena local church to thank the local community for the hospitality. In 1793 the French fleet with a young lieutenant called Napoleon Bonaparte tried to conquer these islands but failed. Giuseppe Garibaldi settled down here for 26 years and died on Caprera island in 1882. By the end of the afternoon after sailing and bathing we’ll dock at La Maddalena town so that all passengers can stroll among the nice paved streets, see the church and the main square, do some shopping, get some souvenirs and have an ice cream or a coffee before sailing back to the port of departure.
